Stop Taking My Money

April 17th, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

Today is one of those days it feels everyone is trying to just take all of my money.  I got a bill for not showing up to a doctor’s appointment for $25.  Let me tell you how this appointment gets made.  Every year I have to go to the doctor so he can ask how I feel and I say “fine”.  He decides to keep me on my medication for another year and says come back in a year.  I go and am told they can only schedule appointments 6 months in advance and they’ll schedule it and let me know.  Okay, in the last year my phone number has changed and my address.  So at some point they picked a day for my appointment and decided that was when I needed to show up.  Keep in mind, I pretty much had to stop talking my pills months ago because of money and not knowing if I could afford going in for some random appointment cause my old insurance copay has to go up every year and specialists aren’t cheap.  My favorite part is this is the 2nd time I’ve tried to talk to them about it.  It takes them 2 days to call me back!

Next, I have a $50 rebate missing.  I haven’t called about it because it was one of those that I was sure I’d get back cause I’ve got corsair rebates before and never had an issue.  I can’t even find the rebate form and I’m pretty sure I didn’t actually make a copy of it.  So hopefully I can at least find the form and add them to the list of people I need to call.

Next, my employer.  I need to go back in and get my last check and sign paper work.  Apparently they’re smart because they stopped my direct deposit to force me to go back in.  If this is going to require an escort, I really don’t see the point of me going back there.  I may duct tape my mouth before going in though cause who knows what I’ll want to say.  I emailed them back and asked for all in the info before coming in so I was prepared, but I didn’t get any useful information.

Yesterday I went to change the title on my truck.  That’s normally a $17 fee.  The nice lady said you’re truck is due for plates next month, would you like to pay it now.  Okay, I was by no means ready to pay for it but figured I should since I would have to take time off from the new job to do it next month.  That bill went from $17 to $377 rather quickly.

Finally, apparently I don’t know how to use the internet.  And some people think I’m a security threat… go figure.  So I’ve been needing knew wheels for my bike forever.  I finally ordered them.  The odd thing, in my cart I noticed the price would change at random.  Even more odd, I’d see the item at one price on the list, click the details and get a different price.  Let this be a lesson to you, don’t trust what you click.  I’m not an idiot.  I know what I added to my cart at the time.  I don’t think the company screwed up.  I don’t think I screwed up.  I think I ordered the wrong thing but only because the website screwed up.  I tried to explain this to them.  You see, I’d be happy with the product I got but I don’t have disk brakes and I can’t even use these wheels.  Which the 2nd guy on the phone was like, “No, you seem to know what you’re talking about so I think you know what you were trying to order.”  Either way, shipping for wheels is about $16 and I have to pay to ship these stupid wheels back that I can’t use.  At least they knocked $5 off the wheels I want (bring them to the price I paid for the wrong wheels) and are covering the shipping back out here.  Still, very irritating.  Considering I order about 80% of what I own online and never had this happen, I guess this is a lesson for the future.  Double check your confirmation emails.

On a positive note, my new keyboard and mouse came today.  The funny thing is, I have this shopping issue I think.  I tend to by things based on their value.  That’s probably why everyone else is trying to take what they can get.  I don’t really need a wireless keyboard and mouse.  My mouse now is a wired gaming mouse that cost me about $50 (not sure if this new mouse is worth the change).  But when you race you have to pull your keyboard off the tray and I finally realized the benefit of a wireless keyboard in this case.  So… I found something I liked and it was normally $100… eek!  Newegg had a good deal on it though, $70 with a $20 mail in rebate and $9 to ship.  That morning I told Jason if it was free shipping I’d get it.  Then I got the Buy.com email.  Woa!  $60 with a $30 mail in rebate and free shipping, and with google check out that’s $20 for a $100 set.  How can you pass that deal up.  The funny thing is the keyboard is taking awhile to get used to.  I’ve been using the same Microsoft keyboards at home for probably 7 years now.  I may end up plugging my old mouse back in for gaming though, this mouse is nice but just not the same.

So… now that you are getting new wheels and they were such a hassle to get am I to assume you would want to make sure you got out and enjoyed them this summer?
