What’s the Price of Corn
I’ve never really been to an area that was considered a swamp, but I’ve seen plenty of pictures before. I felt like I was taking I-80 right through swamp lands in some parts of Iowa. It was pretty odd, the fences and trees right along the interstate were flooded in some areas. Only about the top few inches of a three foot fence was visible in some areas. Mostly this happened when there was two rivers that were fairly close and both had flooded. The number of destroyed fields was pretty high too. I don’t know much about farming but corn is up from $3 a bushel to $8 a bushel, and $3 a bushel is high apparently.
So the golfing was interesting last weekend. Granted, I haven’t golfed for 15 years and when I did, it was not on crazy eleborate coarses. The course this weekend was just unlike any golf course I have really ever seen. We had some pretty regular golfers in our group and no one’s score was under 100 for 18 holes. The regular weekend price there is $90 for 18 holes. I think they said that Iowa State used to use that as a practice course but this is their last year because they have to walk the course by rules, and really, I couldn’t imagine walking this course. The elevation changes were pretty big. This course has won a few awards and I think I saw it was rated as one of the top 20 courses you should golf in the United States one year. Needless to say, this was not the best course for me to try to go out and golf after taking 15 years off. I did finish though, and didn’t run out of balls so that is a good thing. If you want to check it out, here is the website. I must say, golfing again did give me the urge to want to get back in to it. It’s a good way to be outside, get some exercise and drink a few beers. The problem is, my woods were given to me because the previous owner could only hit the ball off to the right with them. Well, I learned, I have the same problem with those clubs so I guess I’d have to invest in some new clubs if I wanted to actually start golfing again.
If you didn’t notice, this is my on call week. So I’ve been kind of busy and slacking off with personal stuff in the evening. Sadly, I’m going to be on call a lot in the coming weeks. During a 4 week stretch I’m on call 21 of the 28 days with my longest stretch of time off being 3 days during one week. At least I got one weekend off though. The worst thing about on call, it’s hard to even plan a bike ride really. I haven’t been working out this week because I’ve been on call and I smashed my ankle on Monday against a 25 lb weight and apparently hurt my ankle some how. It really isn’t pleasant not being able to do much just in case your phone rings. Especially when I have a goal to hit by July 22nd and the only way I can do that is if I work out and I don’t like always going after 9:00. The only advantage, the extra money doesn’t hurt. I really want to get my new TV now. That’s what happens when you’re 100% debt free, you start looking for reasons not to be. Really, I just am sick of my stupid TV. I need some furniture too but I’m trying to hold out till I have room and a house to put it in… which may be never.
If you’re not on facebook, I’ve deciced you should register. Although, most people that read this already are on there. I tend to not go out and add friends but my facebook profile is kind of sad. I seriously had to give myself a gift that showed up on my profile.
