Jerry Was a Race Car Driver
The time has finally come. A weekend I’ve been waiting for, for a year and a half. Sunday, most will probably be relaxing and enjoying the last day of their three day holiday weekend, but not me. I’m off to Kansas Speedway this weekend but for a change, I won’t be sitting and enjoying a race. This is my weekend to be a driver. I’m not really sure what this will all involve but last year I was not able to go so I’ve been waiting for a year because they only do this one weekend a year at Kansas Speedway. I think it is about 2 to 3 hours of instructions and you get to do 8 laps solo after that. After racing online a few times a week for about 5 years, this will be an interesting change. I think they have a restrictor plate to keep you from going full speed but it sounds like it should still be in the 160-170 MPH range. If you don’t hear from me after Sunday, you can assume I wasn’t a very good race car driver and I’m sitting in the infield medical center.
Actually, I’m really just looking forward to change of pace. I’ve spent many weekends up in Bonner Springs and there’s a lot to do there. I could use a mini-vacation but no one ever seems to have the money to get away for a weekend and do anything, even though it doesn’t have to cost much more than a few long nights at a bar in town. My vacation in October seems like a long way away at this point. Maybe I need to strap the bike to the truck and throw my camera in the back and head to Colorado for a few days. It is sort of odd not being the broke one anymore. It is interesting how things change… a little over a year ago I had things to do every night with friends and now, well, now it seems everyone gets tied up in all sorts of crazy drama about one thing or another.
Hope everyone has a happy 4th of July. I have to head up to “the Lake”, but plan to be back in town Friday night. If you’re looking for something to do, let me know. I’ll be heading to Jesse’s. He always tries to make the little neighborhood kids feel inadequate when comparing firework shows.
