Blood and Butterflies

Mayhem Fest (After Show) - 07.22.2008

Some days I feel like I’m getting too old for some of the things I enjoy to do… then I realize I only feel that way cause at least 50% of the male population are morons. When you listen to the music I do and go to the concerts I enjoy, you realize you always take a risk trying to get as close as you can. The problem is if you’re too far back you have to deal with people having room to start mosh pits. The average mosher tends to be a decent guy that isn’t there looking to injure someone, really. At concerts you have to look out for other people. Unfortunately there is that large population of dumbasses that go there to let off aggression. My opinion of these people is they go to the concert because it is the safest place to do so. They would never actually start a fight with someone in a bar when two guys are standing face to face. They look for a cheap shot and disappear and they then tell all they’re friends how the messed up X number of people. Well, if you happen to be one of those people I have only one word to describe you…

I love being up front but I get tired of drunk guys trying to push there way through. Pushing down girls, pushing down smaller guys, grouping up with drunk buddy two, to try to force your way through a crowd. I realize there will be pushing and a lot of it the closer you get. I’ve never been injured when the crowd was so tight you couldn’t move but you get pushed in one direction 2 foot and then eventually get pushed back over your feet. Anyone that’s been to a concert with me knows that I don’t put up with most people being stupid. I get myself in “situations”, yet common sense tends to prevail. Most people know their drunk friend is being an ass and when he tries to be all bad, it always gets defused. I have no problem shaking they’re hand and telling you how it is. “Hey, I realize you want up front but trying to push down me or my friends I’m not going to let happen.” They move and try to find a new hole to work there way up there.

Mayhem Fest (48 Hours) - 07.24.2008

I have a problem, I don’t like to back down but I’m usually looking out for people and myself. When you have to make an abrupt move there is a small period when you’re vulnerable. Apparently that is the best time to get in a sucker punch, or elbow in my case. It all happened in a matter of seconds. Crazy drunk guy shows up looking at his white trash, loser best. Starts pushing people around. Turns to push a girl much smaller than him. I step between, turn around once I think I’ve protected someone only to get cracked in the face. As I turn with the taste of blood in my mouth and blood dripping down my face, this rock star had already bolted through the crowd to get away. I suppose looking back, it was for the better. No reason to fight and that’s all that would have happened. I feel like the bigger and better man cause I could joke about it when it was all said and done and I wasn’t the one that ran. The Cut!

The trip was a blast considering how much we got done in the small amount of time we were there. Mayhem Fest was awesome all things considered. My face is swollen and scarred and my knee in about twice the size as the other but the music was great. I wish they would have done something better on the timing of the shows so we could see more bands but the overall atmosphere was good. Disturbed put on an awesome show. Slipknot, not as good as I would have expected actually but still something I wanted to see. Hey, if Sid could be on the stage in a wheel chair from a concert incident I suppose a little black eye never hurt anyone, I just wish I would have had a chance to see it coming.

Is it just me or do you look seriously stoned in the second picture… I suppose a little “medicinal” marijuana never hurt anyone. :P

It is just you… I was tired and taking the picture myself with a digital SLR in hand… I think I did well.

Whatever, it doesn’t even look like you all the facial features and proportions are way out of skew… two words, self timer

Why would I use the self timer when I can fire the shutter via remote control? Still involves a tripod and that was too much work. Maybe my face is just skewed out of proportion normally!
