Time for Change

November 8th, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

It has been an interesting year. I feel the same issues arise with every election; it is more important to attack the opposition than promote yourself. It is amazing that the real person is most visible during concession and acceptance speeches. The average everyday person has strong feelings, and typically always feel they are right. Forcing that upon other people is what is wrong with many aspects of life whether it be politics, religion, life, death… the list goes on forever. This is why pre-election times are so disturbing to me. The saddest part of the coverage I watched, so many comments regarding race. Obviously, this has become a time of change, which is needed. I am very hopefully that the next 4 years will be positive and if I had to vote, I am happy to say that I agree this is probably the best thing for this country. The problem with change, is the common person. I hope for only one thing to be accomplished over the next 4 years. I hope this country realizes, as a country, you’re not white or black. You’re not Hispanic or Asian or Cuban. You’re not male or female. You’re not middle class, lower class or upper class. You’re not white collar or blue collar. You’re not pro-war or a tree-hugger. You’re not a democrat or republican or liberal. You’re an American and you’re not better or worse than anyone else classified as a citizen in this country. Without working as one nation, nothing can be accomplished. Without acceptance, there is no change.

Did I vote… nope. Does that make my opinion any less valuable… nope. I don’t plan to vote until I feel there is a candidate worth me voting for instead of voting for who I think might do a better job out of my two options. I tend to be the type that sits back and lets everyone else fight over who is better and why and I just soak in everything as knowledge and form my own opinions that I only share with a small number of people. I don’t think you should be voting if you’re unsure either candidate is good for our future (and unfortunately, that is how I always feel since most politicians tend to have the same qualities). I trust the government as a whole will keep the order with who ever is elected as president. Sure, it probably isn’t the attitude you’re supposed to have, but honestly, it doesn’t matter that much to me. I realize unless I want to start making a lot less money or a lot more, I’m going to pay high taxes and get very few breaks so the people that make a lot less can have their free lunches and the people that make a lot more can have their expensive lunches. That sort of just seems to be the way things go these days.
