Rest, Rock, Ribs and Racing
I really do not like being sick and I really, really do not like being sick when it is warm outside. I guess since I had a pretty mild winter, I was due to get something even if I still am not sure what it was exactly. Having a fever for two days can really drain you but at least I am getting to spend some time on the computer today instead of laying in a cold sweat on the couch!
Last weekend was the Music as a Weapon show and my first chance for my always popular ribs on the new grill. Music as a Weapon was good, but I expected it to be. I really enjoyed seeing Lacuna Coil and Chimaira live. Disturbed is always awesome and they did not disappoint. As for the ribs, they were so-so. The problem with the new grill is that it isn’t my old, worn out grill that I spent many years cooking on. The ribs didn’t turn out quite like I wanted them to, but they weren’t bad. I guess I just need to do some tweaking with my methods. Although, Frank’s ribs were more like an entire half of a pig and putting two of them on at once pretty much covered the entire grill except for one of the five burners. One burner just wasn’t enough heat to cook everything in under eight hours unfortunately. The good news is I get to keep trying.
Last week was race number two since I decided to start racing again. I finished 4th, which is pretty good all things considered. I have never raced on this track before, aside from IRL races which is completely different. I decided to post another video from the replay. It is kind of long but it gives a much better idea of what it is like racing online with real people. The first two clips are what I like to considering good driving instinct. A driver in front of me went down on the apron and lost it coming out of the turn. From my view, all I could see was smoke but I safely made it through unharmed. The second part is a restart during the middle of the race. I was in the lead and a little over driving on cold tires about ended my race. When you don’t use driving aids, you have to be very careful on fresh, cold tires. Since you never know who is using aids, sometimes you have to drive pretty aggressively to hold your position. The last part is a restart with 3 laps to go. The shortest way around the track is obviously at the bottom and the guy in 5th decided to try to improve his position. I let him take the low side since previously I about lost it sticking to the bottom on cold tires. It is always a good feeling to be able to hold your position when you are the car on the outside.
